Energon is compressed energy used by Cybertronians for their own bodies as well as for their weapons, machines, and buildings. It is usually stored in cubes although rods and other forms have been used for dedicated purposes.
During the Earth Wars both the Autobots and the Decepticons worked to collect, compress, and store energon to feed themselves, and to build, upgrade, and reinforce their defenses against attacks by the other side. During such attacks the attackers would confiscate the materials to take back to their own base. (PvP Battles)
Energon Harvesters increase their rate of production as they are upgraded so that they generate more and more material in a short amount of time. It needs to be removed periodically and transferred to the storage units. If the energon doesn't get transferred the machine gets saturated and it can't produce any more until cleared. Energon Storage units hold defined amounts of cubes that get increased capacity as the building is upgraded. Excess energon becomes lost.
Energon is important for robotic upgrades, ability upgrades, regular recharging, in addition to construction and upgrades.

Energy Cells[]
When not in cubes energon is compressed into energy cells which are used to power the Space Bridge and transfer team members between Earth and Cybertron; to reinforce the Earth Wars forces or to perform in the Raid Battles.
Fuel Cells[]
When not in cubes energon is compressed into fuel cells which are used to power the team shuttle which carries teams into battles.

Energon is also issued as rewards during Events and upon winning an Alliance War. These rewards get put into an inventory (accessed through Menu>>Inventory screens) and are not subjected to being confiscated upon enemy raids.
